The Chinese Cultural Revolution

In August of the year 1966, the CCP passed the “Decision Concerning the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.” This decision impacted everyone and changed the movement greatly. It changed the student movement into a large campaign all over the world. It made people have more freedom and have more rights to strike against others. But then the rights that made them free were abolished in 1979. This happened because the Democracy Wall movement was subdued.

August 16 marked the day that Mao and Lin Biao talked to the Red Guards. This talk motivated the Red Guards to help Mao and Lin Biao to follow through their plans.

The Red Guards spread there authority of socialism for two years until July 1968. They did this by using certain strategies. Large groups of followers were assembled. In 1967 people or activists began to be more violent and to use weapons to fight. Then after the weapons stopped they focused on stopping the mass movement.

In 1969, Liu Shaoqi was in put in a detention camp and he died in there. Deng Xiaoping had to work in an engine factory. These people were involved the mass movement of China. Some had even worse punishment. Mao Zedong made the police force stop the intervention of what the Red Guards were doing. To him the Red Guards were great and they were doing the right thing.

All Red Guards were told to go to Beijing on September 5, 1966. The government paid for all of their expenses.

In 1967, it had many “political power struggles”. Lin Biao and Jiang Qing criticized the Shanghai government leaders. Different leaders of China were creating issues with others. And some of them used the Cultural Revolution to accuse others of being against ideas. This created paranoia and spread.

Mao liked what these leaders did to each other and he led them to criticize each other. This happened on January 8, 1967. Then different leaders tried more of their tactics to take others power.

In the end the Chinese Cultural Revolution, was just chaos. It changed how the country was run, who had power, and the beliefs of people. This Revolution had a very large impact on who the Chinese people are today.
